Ownership comes in many forms.  You can own a horse to race, for production of new athletes, or for resale.

For many years, Thoroughbred racing has been known as the Sport of Kings.  We view racing as a proving ground for the true activity of royalty.  The pride and recognition that comes from the selection of bloodstock, breeding, and production of a champion Thoroughbred is unmatched.

Owning a broodmare that produces potential champions for market is the focus of our ownership program.  It is the quiet excitement in the Sport of Kings.  It is also much less speculative than any other form of Thoroughbred ownership.

To truly be competitive and produce a profit in Thoroughbred racing, one should consider an annual investment of around $2,000,000 a year.  On the other hand if pure excitement is what you want, one of our racing partnership may be for you.  These are entertainment partnerships and they do not carry the same tax benefits but do contain some.

The hard facts are simple; if you want to win, you must have a plan.  You must have quality bloodstock, a proven trainer, and a little luck.  Vosburgh Farms can put you in the winners circle.  However, if quite excitement is your game; a breeding partnership is what you want.

Owning Thoroughbreds that produce champions is the ultimate in prestige.

If done correctly the sale of the foal, as a yearling, more than covers the years production expenses.  The average sale price of a yearling at Keenland in 2003 was over $92,000.  The highest price yearling sold for $3,800,000.

Below are some of the key aspects of a breeding partnership:

1. A quality mares with proven production or the potential of champion production is selected.

2. A Sire is selected based on his ability to produce quality with that family of mares.

3. If the mare is barren or a maiden she will start being prepared for her matting in late fall.

3. When the mare is "in foal", she is placed into the Vosburgh Production System (VPS) where her nutritional needs, weight, and health are meticulously monitored.

4. The grand event; the foal is born.

5. The foal enters our Juvenile Development program, specifically designed to monitor and perform the critical steps needed for the production of a champion athlete.

6. The foal is weaned from the mare.

7. The foal continues in the development program until it is time to begin preparation for public sale.  This is where the yearling is dressed up, groomed daily, and packaged for presentation to the marketplace.

8. The foal is delivered to our sales agent and sold at public auction to the highest bidder.  This sale takes place in September at Keenland where the best of the best are sold to buyers from around the world.
